The basics for beginning
First off, you'll need a PC that's at least a P120 (any slower may be TOO slow with the TSR and MPXPLAY). I recommend at least 16MB of RAM (mine has 32MB). You also need a sound card with complete DOS drivers (NOT Win9X DOS drivers, these aren't the same!)
Once you have your guinea-pig system setup (including drivers), you need to test it to make sure it works. Using plany.exe (included in the files), attempt to play a sound. I used "ding.wav" from my Windows/Media directory for my first test, and then changed it to the nightvision goggles sound from HL (but renamed it ding.wav to keep it simple). I added the line "plany.exe ding.wav" to my autoexec.bat file before the "1.exe" line so that it would play and I would know that it was ready to go.
Then, setup and test your LCD screen outside the computer before setting it up in the car - it's much easier to troubleshoot! You don't need to use the long straight-through DB25 cable to do this.
